Resumen

This article offers a historical journey through the configuration process of urban inequality in two Latin American cities: Buenos Aires and Lima. With main attention to the socioeconomic, political and urban planning dimensions, it identifies the patterns of growth and expansion in these cities and with this, proposes to trace the traces that define the current socio-territorial inequality. The methodological design supposes the comparative analysis of cases, articulating disciplinary approaches of urban history and urban planning to address the urbanization process in Lima and Buenos Aires from the Colony to the present. In this evolution, it warns about the localization guidelines of the different social groups and their changes. The results achieved contribute to reflections on Latin American unity as a structuring element of urban marginality.
