Abstract
The main objective of this research is to take stock of the participation of popular sectors in the independence of Peru. For this, the contributions of traditional historiography, the revisionist historiography that emerged from the 70s of the 20th century and the impact of these on recent studies are pondered. These differences of perspective are due to the effort to make visible in a disaggregated way the social and / or ethnic composition of these popular sectors and the verification of their lack of integration and social and political cohesion, which makes the analysis of their participation in the wars of independence.
